This episode we are back in Toronto for North by North East with a high-energy melodic rock band from Los Angeles, California called Oh No Not Stereo.  The they we’re formed by Skyler Nielsen and Mykul Lee in Hollywood, California in June of 2003. The two met at a music store in Hollywood within months of moving to LA. Immediately they collaborated musically and began writing together, developing their concept of a live-duo that delivers a full ‘conventional’ sound.

This episode we have more coverage of one of the hits at Winnipeg’s Folk Fest, DJ Logic. He is a turntablist active primarily in jazz and with jam bands. He was raised in The Bronx and had an early interest in hip hop led to his using the turntables, practicing often. He was also interested in funk and jazz music, and began collaborating with various musicians. His own recordings are perhaps best described as contemporary soul jazz with a strong hip hop feel.

We caught up with Candy Coated Killahz during Toronto’s North by North East Festival. This Toronto duo bang out heavy-hitting crowd-pleasers. With gritty rhymes and bouncy pop hooks, they skillfully pull together the most irreplaceable elements of hip-hop, electro-pop, and dance anthems. It’s a sound that is infectiously accessible yet fully genre-bending.
